Today the holiday shopping kicks off in earnest! We've all got lists to check twice before the December deadline, and when shopping this season, why not shop local? Supporting the small businesses of our friends and neighbors is always important, but since the "unprecedented times" keep on going, it's as critical as ever. Saturday, November 27th, is "Small Business Saturday," a holiday set up to rival the infamous "Black Friday." The focus is on small businesses, designed to put money back into the local community instead of enormous online retailers.

Gratitude
We want to share a special note of gratitude for Darlene Ollier. Darlene, the Davis Street manager, will be retiring at the end of December after twenty-eight years at Downtown Self Storage! When asked what she'll miss when she leaves her longtime office, Darlene responded without pause, "I'll miss the people."
Darlene has been the smiling face of the Davis Street location for many years and enjoys contact and conversation with customers. She says, "I love to talk to everyone here."
Retirement for Darlene doesn't mean she'll put her feet up. She plans to spend her time volunteering to support the elderly in her community, it's what she loves to do. "I enjoy working with the elderly, and it makes a difference. Helping people is what's it's all about."
Thank you, Darlene, for giving Downtown Self Storage twenty-eight years of excellent service! You'll be missed.
KGW Toy Drive
Support local kids in need! Downtown Self Storage is hosting the drop locations again this year for the KGW Toy Drive. The goal of this 35-year-old tradition is to collect toys for families in Oregon and SW Washington. Thank you to our friends at the Pearl District Neighborhood Association for promoting the toy drive in their weekly newsletter! If we all work together, every child in need will have presents this holiday season.
Drop off your gifts at Downtown Self Storage: 1305 Davis Street or 1304 Johnson Street locations or you can donate online. All donated toys will be distributed with the help of over 130 local nonprofit organizations and hundreds of dedicated volunteers.
Thanksgiving Raffle
We're thrilled to announce this year's Thanksgiving raffle drawing! Downtown Self Storage customers Mr. Anderson and Ms. Guiseppa won a Safeway and a Starbucks gift card respectively! Congratulations, you two, and thank you to all our participants!
